Montreal Alouettes release former NFL RB Eno Benjamin

The Montreal Alouettes have released American running back Eno Benjamin ahead of their regular-season finale.

The 26-year-old native of Dallas, Tex., signed with the Alouettes on September 9 and suited up in four games for the team as a backup. He rushed seven times for 35 yards and caught one pass for seven yards, while returning two kickoffs for 36 yards and six punts for 46 yards.

Benjamin began the season with the Calgary Stampeders, dressing for two games. He carried the ball three times for seven yards and made one catch for 10 yards, while also recording 80 kickoff return yards on five attempts and 43 punt return yards on five opportunities. He was a healthy scratch for nine games before being released by the team in September.

The five-foot-nine, 207-pound ball-carrier was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played 24 games with the Cardinals, Houston Texans, and New Orleans Saints, rushing for 431 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 235 yards and returned 15 kickoffs for 342 yards.

Benjamin played 35 games over three collegiate seasons at Arizona State University. He rushed 576 times for 2,867 yards and 27 touchdowns and added 82 catches for 625 yards and four scores. Benjamin was named first-team all-Pac 12 Conference as a sophomore in 2018 after setting a single-season school record with 1,642 rushing yards.

Stevie Scott III will continue to start in the Montreal backfield, with Tiyon Evans taking over Benjamin’s insurance role.

The Montreal Alouettes (10-7) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-8) on Saturday, October 25, with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Alouettes are coming off back-to-back wins over the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Blue Bombers got an ugly win over the depleted Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The weather forecast in Winnipeg calls for a high of 16 degrees with sunny conditions. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 690 in Montreal and 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
