The CFL has announced a slew of fines from the past three weeks, including for a pair of Montreal Alouettes for high hits on different Ottawa quarterbacks during their back-to-back matchups.
Defensive tackle Shawn Oakman was reprimanded for a blow to the head or neck of Redblacks’ pivot Tyrie Adams last week. Defensive end Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund was guilty of the same offence against QB Dustin Crum in Week 19. Montreal won both games, with Crum unable to play in the follow-up due to a head injury.
The Redblacks also received a pair of fines for actions against the Alouettes. Fullback Marco Dubois was punished for striking Montreal linebacker Tyrell Richards in Week 19, which resulted in his ejection, and strong side linebacker Adarius Pickett was docked for delivering a spear to receiver Tyler Snead.
Ottawa linebacker Tyron Vrede was also the only person fined for actions in Week 18, as he was found guilty of delivering a blindside block on Saskatchewan defensive back Sheldrick Redwine.
The two remaining fines stem from incidents in Week 20. Winnipeg defensive lineman Jay Person was docked for delivering a blindside block on Saskatchewan defensive lineman Benoit Marion, while Calgary fullback Quincy Vaughn has been fined for delivering an illegal low block on Toronto defensive lineman Greg Reaves.
As per CFL policy, the fine amounts were not disclosed. Under the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement, the maximum allowable fine is half a game cheque.
The CFL’s Department of Health, Safety and Integrity manages any league discipline that does not require a suspension. Fines are determined by a panel consisting of chief football operations officer Greg Dick, vice-president of officiating Darren Hackwood, associate vice-president of football operations Ryan Janzen, and associate vice-president of health and safety Eric Noivo.
Discipline related to dress code violations, those involving teams or staff, and those involving players who have been released, is not shared publicly.
