The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ dreams of a home Grey Cup victory remain alive.
The team took care of business with a 17-16 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday to move to 9-8 on the season, but still needed an Edmonton Elks loss to clinch a playoff spot. They got that later in the evening, as the Green and Gold fell 37-24 to the B.C. Lions.
It remains to be seen how the Blue Bombers will be seeded, as they could still finish as high as second in the West Division or as low as the East Division crossover spot.
Winnipeg has now qualified for the postseason every year since 2016 — a run of nine consecutive seasons that is the longest active streak in the CFL. They have reached five straight Grey Cup games, but have not hoisted the trophy since back-to-back victories in 2019 and 2021.
The Blue Bombers will wrap-up their regular season on Saturday, October 25 when they host the Montreal Alouettes. They hope to end their postseason run at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, where the 112th Grey Cup will be held on Sunday, November 16.
