The Edmonton Elks’ Cinderella push for a CFL playoff spot has officially come to an end.
The team dropped to 7-10 on Friday night after suffering a 37-24 loss at the hands of the B.C. Lions. Despite jumping out to a 10-2 lead and limiting B.C.’s high-powered offence to a single first-half touchdown, the wheels fell off in the second half as quarterback Cody Fajardo threw three interceptions, including a pivotal pick-six.
That defeat eliminated any mathematical possibility of the Elks passing the Calgary Stampeders or Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the standings, clinching both teams’ playoff spots in the process.
This marks the fifth straight season that the Elks have missed the postseason, with their last run coming as a crossover team in 2019. The franchise has not finished better than .500 since a 12-6 season in 2017, and last won a Grey Cup in 2015.
However, major changes are not expected for the organization as they have shown improvement in their first season under president Chris Morris, general manager Ed Hervey, and head coach Mark Kilam. They will wrap up their 2025 campaign when they host the Stampeders on Friday, October 24.
