Hamilton Tiger-Cats release returner Phillip Brooks

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released American receiver Phillip Brooks.

The 26-year-old native of Overland Park, Kan. signed with the team early last month while return specialist Isaiah Wooden was out of the lineup due to injury. He dressed for two regular-season games with the Tiger-Cats, recording 10 punt returns for 66 yards and three kickoff returns for 89 yards.

The five-foot-seven, 175-pound speedster played one game with the B.C. Lions earlier this season, returning two punts for 10 yards and four kickoffs for 94 yards.

Brooks dressed for a program record 65 games over six seasons at Kansas State University. He caught 182 passes for 2,127 yards and 14 touchdowns with the Wildcats and returned 57 punts for 712 yards and four scores. He was named first-team All-Big 12 in 2020 and second-team All-Big 12 in 2022.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (10-6) will host the Calgary Stampeders (8-7) at Hamilton Stadium on Saturday, October 11 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a tough loss to the B.C. Lions, while the Tiger-Cats put up almost 50 points in a win over the Toronto Argonauts.

The weather forecast in Hamilton calls for a high of 17 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS2, and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.
