The Toronto Argonauts have shut down star linebacker Wynton McManis for the rest of the 2025 CFL season with a groin injury, according to TSN reporter Farhan Lalji.
Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie has made the move with his team at 5-11 through 16 games and eliminated from playoff contention. The 31-year-old team captain played in 13 games for the Argos, recording 62 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and forced one fumble.
Through 55 regular season games with Toronto, McManis has registered 286 tackles, 11 special teams stops, 12 sacks, nine interceptions, scored three touchdowns, and forced two fumbles. His son and daughter were born in The Six as he calls it home with his family.
During his CFL career to date, the six-foot, 220-pound linebacker has recorded 390 tackles, 52 special teams tackles, 16 sacks, nine interceptions, forced three fumbles and scored three defensive touchdowns in 100 games.
McManis has won three Grey Cups (2018, 2022, and 2024) and been named a CFL all-star twice (2022 and 2023). He was the best player on the field for the Double Blue in the 111th Grey Cup win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, recording six tackles and one interception, which he returned 58 yards to set up a touchdown.
McManis was the highest-paid linebacker in the three-down league for a third straight year.
The Toronto Argonauts (5-11) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (11-4) at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Friday, October 10 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders are coming off a modest win over the Ottawa Redblacks, while the Argonauts were crushed by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
