Argos sign Div. II All-American DL Deshawn McCarthy

The Toronto Argonauts have signed American defensive lineman Deshawn McCarthy to their training camp roster.

The six-foot-four, 265-pound pass rusher played 43 games over four seasons at East Stroudsburg University, a Division II program in Pennsylvania. His best campaign came as a sophomore in 2021, when he racked up 41 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks to be named a first-team All-American.

The native of Philadelphia, Pa. never returned to those heights but was named to the All-PSAC East first team in each of his final three seasons. He left the Warriors following the 2023 campaign having made 138 career tackles, 51 tackles for loss, 31 sacks, 14 batted passes, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft and later attended rookie mini-camp with the Kansas City Chiefs, though he did not sign a contract with the team.

The Argonauts also re-signed Canadian offensive lineman John Bosse after he finished his rookie season on the practice roster.

The University of Calgary product appeared in two games last season and started the regular-season finale at tackle. He was selected with the 25th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 CFL Draft after making just 12 career starts along the offensive line with the Dinos, winning a Vanier Cup in 2019. At six-foot-five and 335 pounds, he possessed 36.5-inch arms, possibly the longest of any prospect in CFL draft history.
