Canadian quarterback Kurtis Rourke has caught the attention of oddsmakers with his strong play this year, moving into the top 15 of potential Heisman Trophy winners.
The native of Oakville, Ont. has completed 73.8 percent of his passes for 1,752 yards, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions this season, leading the University of Indiana to its first 6-0 start since 1967. He has also rushed for 44 yards and two major scores.
The six-foot-five, 231-pound passer transferred to the Hoosiers this past off-season following a five-year run at Ohio University where he threw for 7,651 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He is currently the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 CFL Draft, though it’s likely he’ll get an opportunity to play in the NFL given how well he’s played against a higher level of NCAA competition this year.
Rourke initially committed to Ohio while his older brother, Nathan, was the quarterback there. Nathan rejoined the B.C. Lions in August following a stint in the NFL but was recently benched in favour of Vernon Adams Jr.
The Heisman Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top player in college football, has previously been won by Caleb Williams, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Cam Newton, Reggie Bush, Barry Sanders, Tim Brown, Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Marcus Allen, Earl Campbell, and Doug Flutie, many of whom have achieved NFL stardom.
