Calgary Stampeders honour Reggie Begelton with Presidents’ Ring award

The Calgary Stampeders have selected receiver Reggie Begelton as the recipient for this year’s Presidents’ Ring award.

“Thank you all so much,” said Begelton in a statement. “I am truly honoured to be recognized by my peers with this award. Consistency is something I hold dear — I believe it has the power to elevate us to new heights in life. If you remain persistent, you will achieve your goals, but it is consistency that ensures you hold on to them.

“I’m grateful for this acknowledgement and excited to continue striving for excellence alongside all of you. Thank you.”

The honour is presented annually to the player who best demonstrates excellence on and off the field. It is voted on by the players and has been awarded since 1967. Candidates are judged on their in-game contributions, leadership, inspiration and motivational skills.

“I congratulate Reggie on this very well-deserved honour,” said team president Jay McNeil. “He is an all-star performer on the field and an excellent ambassador for the team in the community. The players have made an excellent choice.”

Those who have previously won the Presidents’ Ring award include Derek Wiggan, Wayne Harris, Henry Burris, Danny Barrett, Stu Laird, Rob Cote, Keon Raymond, Jay McNeil, Alondra Johnson, Wayne Harris, Allen Pitts, Lloyd Fairbanks, Bernie Morrison, Ed McAleney, James Sykes, Willie Burden, and Jerry Keeling.

Begelton has caught 85 passes for 1,073 yards and touchdowns this season and extended his streak of games with at least one receptions to 68, which is the sixth-longest in team history.
