The B.C. Lions have opened the upper bowl at B.C. Place Stadium for their game against the Montreal Alouettes on Oct. 19.
“The push to the playoffs is heating up and as a result, our October 19 game has been selling very well for a few weeks,” said team president Duane Vienneau in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome in another big crowd as we continue our push to host a game in November.”
The Lions clinched a playoff berth for the third straight year with their win over the Calgary Stampeders this past week. The club is 3-2 over its last five games after losing its previous five in a row.
B.C. is a short road favourite over the Saskatchewan Roughriders this week when they visit Mosaic Stadium. A win would give the Lions a chance to host the West Semi-Final, provided they win their regular season finale against Montreal or the Riders lose their final regular season game against Calgary. A loss this week would lock B.C. into third place, forcing them to go on the road for a chance to play at home in this year’s Grey Cup.
The Lions have averaged crowds of 28,398 at B.C. Place Stadium this season, which doesn’t include the home game they played at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria. When including that matchup, the team has averaged attendance of 26,689 this year, which is up 13 percent from 2023.
A club spokesperson has previously indicated to 3DownNation that the lower bowl at B.C. Place Stadium seats approximately 25,500 fans.
The Lions (8-8) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-7-1) on Saturday, Oct. 12 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
