Two Alouettes fined for simulating the firing of a weapon

It seems the Montreal Alouettes got a little trigger-happy during their Week 17 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Not one, but two members of the team — American receiver Charleston Rambo and Canadian linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-Arku — have been fined for violating the CFL’s Code of Conduct for simulating the firing of a weapon during a celebration. It is unclear when either player committed the offence.

Rambo caught three passes for just 15 yards against Toronto. The American rookie has established himself as a legitimate deep threat in his first year, recording 54 receptions for 773 yards and four touchdowns.

Cantin-Arku, the Alouettes’ first-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft, has had an exceptional rookie season in his own right, notching 29 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, five sacks, and an interception while playing a depth role. Against the Argos, he finished with two defensive tackles and a sack.

As per CFL policy, the amount of the fines was not disclosed. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the largest possible fine is equal to half of a player’s game cheque.

The Alouettes (11-3-1) are on a bye this week. They will return to action on Monday, October 14 when they host the Ottawa Redblacks (8-6-1).
