Saskatchewan Roughriders sign Canadian LB Zach Philion… again

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian linebacker Zach Philion for the second time this season.

Philion originally signed with the Riders in August and played one game for the team before being released. The six-foot-one, 225-pound defender was a seventh-round pick of the Ottawa Redblacks in the 2024 CFL Draft. He initially made the team’s practice roster after training camp but was released in late June.

The 25-year-old made 98 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, 11 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble over 27 collegiate games at Concordia University. He previously played at New Mexico Military Institute where he made nine tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups.

The native of Buffalo, N.Y. is the son of longtime CFL defensive lineman Ed Philion.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-7-1) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (8-5-1)on Saturday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
