The Montreal Alouettes have brought back Canadian running back Michael Herzog, adding him to the practice roster.
The native of Windsor, Ont. was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 CFL Draft and attended training camp with the team, though he was released among final roster cuts.
The 24-year-old rushed for 2,273 yards and 29 touchdowns over 29 collegiate games at Hillsdale College, a Division II program located southwest of Detroit.
Herzog missed the 2021 season due to injury but was named first-team All-Conference in 2022 and a second-team All-American in 2023. He was also a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in Division II football.
The five-foot-eight, 201-pound ball-carrier was one of the top testers at the 2024 CFL Combine in Winnipeg, running a 4.55-second forty-yard dash, 6.94-second three-cone drill, 4.20-second shuttle, and leaping a 39-inch vertical and 120-inch broad jump.
Herzog participated in the local pro day with the Detroit Lions before going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft. He also attended rookie minicamp with the Lions.
The graduate of Holy Names Catholic High School is the younger brother of free agent CFL defensive back Zach Herzog, who also attended Hillsdale College.
The Alouettes also signed American receiver Tyrone Howell, American offensive lineman Ed Montilus, Canadian defensive lineman Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal, and American linebacker Tre Thomas to the practice roster.
Montreal (10-1) will host the B.C. Lions (6-6) on Friday, Sept. 6 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
