Canadian quarterback Tre Ford is ready to return to the lineup for the Edmonton Elks but won’t get the start in the Labour Day Classic.
Ford has missed the last two games after sustaining a rib injury in the second quarter of Edmonton’s Week 10 win over the B.C. Lions. He remains limited in practice but has taken a greater share of the reps this week, though not enough to catapult him back above veteran McLeod Bethel-Thompson on the depth chart.
“Still confident he’ll be on the roster, he’ll be our number two. We’ll have Mac starting and we’ll go from there,” interim head coach Jarious Jackson told 630 CHED. “[Ford’s] looked good all week. I don’t see anything, any giddy up, any hitch in his throws or what have you. He’s looking good and I’m pretty sure he’s progressing the right way.”
Ford has seen action in three games this season, going 2-0 as a starter. He has completed 35-of-45 passes for 473 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, while rushing 11 times for 79 yards.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson began the year 0-7 as the starter before being benched in favour of Ford, but has gone 1-1 since stepping back in due to injury. He has completed 221-of-322 passes for 2,393 yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
The Edmonton Elks (3-8) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (4-6) for the annual Labour Day Classic on Monday, September 2 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.
