The Minnesota Vikings have signed Canadian-American QB Brett Rypien, according to ESPN reporter Kevin Seifert.
The six-foot-two, 202-pound passer signed with the Chicago Bears in March. After completing 70.6 percent of his passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns during the preseason, he was released among final roster cuts.
The nephew of Calgary native and Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien spent the 2023 season as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and New York Jets. He threw for 172 yards with one interception while posting an 0-1 record as a starter.
The 28-year-old originally signed with the Denver Broncos after going unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent four seasons with the team. He went 2-1 over three regular season starts with the team, throwing for 778 yards with four touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Rypien was born in Spokane, Wash. but is eligible for dual citizenship. He was a four-year starter at Boise State University where he passed for 13,578 yards with 90 touchdowns and 29 interceptions while being named a three-time first-team All-Mountain West Conference player and Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Through five NFL seasons, Rypien has earned nearly $4 million USD.
