The Montreal Alouettes have signed American receiver Tyler Snead to a one-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2025.
Snead played in just one game this season, collecting two receptions for 62 yards in the opener before suffering a foot injury that placed him on the six-game injured list.
The five-foot-seven, 174-pound speedster had 56 catches for 788 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2023. He added nine receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown through three playoff games and delivered a critical block in the Grey Cup game which helped spring William Stanback for a score.
“Tyler turned a lot of heads with his speed and his ability to catch difficult passes,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement. “He brings a lot to our team, and we look forward to having him back on the field in the coming weeks.”
Prior to joining the Alouettes, Snead played four seasons at East Carolina University, dressing for 27 career games. He hauled in 201 receptions for 2,385 yards and 18 touchdowns over that span, adding another major along the ground and three touchdown passes. He also returned 60 kicks for 1,268 yards, taking two returns all the way to the house.
Snead’s best season came as a senior in 2021, when he amassed 67 catches for 860 yards and four touchdowns. He was twice named to a second-team All-American Athletic Conference honouree as a receiver and returner.
The native of Raleigh, North Carolina signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent ahead of the 2022 season. He played in three preseason games with the team, recording five receptions for 27 yards and one touchdown, but was released as part of final roster cuts.
The Alouettes (10-1) are on a bye this week. They will return to action on Friday, September 6 when they host the B.C. Lions.
