Hamilton Tiger-Cats release Kordell Rodgers, sign two

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released defensive back Kordell Rodgers.

The native of Lufkin, Texas started one game for the team at boundary cornerback, recording three defensive tackles. He dressed for 12 games with the Montreal Alouettes in 2023, making nine starts at boundary cornerback and two starts at field-side cornerback last year, recording 37 tackles and two interceptions.

The five-foot-eleven, 175-pound defender played collegiately at Texas State University before entering the professional ranks. He recorded 158 total tackles, four tackles for loss, seven interceptions, 17 pass knockdowns, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one sack over 48 games with the Bobcats.

Hamilton has also signed American defensive lineman Tim Ward and American defensive back Decorian Patterson.

Ward played 12 NFL games as a member of the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, making 17 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and one pass deflection. The six-foot-six, 255-pound native of High Point, N.C. has also been a member of the Green Bay Packers, XFL’s Houston Roughnecks, and UFL’s DC Defenders and San Antonio Brahmas.

Patterson recently attended rookie minicamp with the Chiefs but wasn’t signed to a contract. The six-foot, 195-pound native of Leesburg, Fla. played 12 collegiate games at the University of Central Florida last season where he made 23 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and two pass deflections. He previously played at Middle Tennessee State University.

The Ticats also released Global punter Kaare Vedvik from their practice roster.

Hamilton (2-9) will host the Toronto Argonauts (6-4) for the annual Labour Day Classic on Monday, Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
