B.C. Lions sign American DB Jalon Edwards-Cooper

The B.C. Lions have signed American defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper.

He was released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders due to a failed physical in May, according to head coach Corey Mace. He suffered a dislocated shoulder injury last season.

The 27-year-old signed a one-year contract during free agency in February worth $120,500 in hard money, including a $20,000 signing bonus.

In 30 career CFL games, the five-foot-eleven, 175-pound cover man has recorded 79 defensive tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble. He spent the first three seasons of his CFL career with the B.C. Lions.

All-star cornerback Garry Peters gets lots of attention when discussing the B.C. Lions’ secondary, but Edwards-Cooper had quietly developed into a great cover man before his departure. He is expected to push for immediate playing time.

The B.C. Lions (5-5) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (6-2-1) on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
