Ottawa Redblacks’ running back Ryquell Armstead has been fined for verbally abusing Stampeders support staff and on-field officials during his team’s Week 8 victory over Calgary.

The 27-year-old ball carrier was ejected from the game early in the second quarter after he was flagged for a second misconduct penalty following a scuffle with veteran strong-side linebacker Branden Dozier, which constitutes an automatic disqualification under CFL rules. The Redblacks were forced to finish the game without a running back after they chose not to dress a backup but still won 33-6.

This was the second time that Armstead has violated the CFL’s Code of Conduct this season as he was previously fined for verbal abuse of an official in Week 4. In seven games this season, the former NFL back has carried 79 times for 390 yards and two touchdowns while adding 18 receptions for 161 yards through the air.

Ottawa receiver Jaelon Acklin also received supplemental discipline for violating the Code of Conduct by simulating the firing of a weapon during a celebration.

As per league policy, the exact amount of the fines was not disclosed. The maximum possible fine under the collective bargaining agreement is equal to one-half of a player’s game cheque.
