Saskatchewan Roughriders to start RB Frankie Hickson, swap cornerbacks vs. Montreal

Published on

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have Frankie Hickson in the backfield when they take on the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday.

The 27-year-old native of Lynchburg, Va. is in his third year with the team but has spent almost the entire season thus far on the practice roster. A.J. Ouellette ran for 389 yards and three touchdowns as the team’s starter but is unavailable this week as he was placed on the one-game injured list due to a hip problem.

Hickson has recorded 121 carries for 696 yards and one touchdown over 24 career regular season games along with 21 receptions for 148 yards. This will be his first start since Week 17 of last season.

Shea Patterson will make his fourth consecutive start under centre with Trevor Harris still on the six-game injured list with a knee injury, while KeeSean Johnson has replaced Kian Schaffer-Baker at boundary slotback. Schaffer-Baker suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s win over Winnipeg and has been placed on the six-game injured list.

Saskatchewan has also made a change at boundary cornerback, giving Amari Henderson the start. The six-foot-one, 182-pound native of Charlotte, N.C. has played 29 games over two seasons with the Riders but was a healthy scratch for the team’s past five games. Deontai Williams, who started the club’s first six games at boundary cornerback, will be a healthy scratch this week.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-1) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (5-1) on Thursday, July 25 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
