Edmonton Elks’ DB Scott Hutter announces injury is season-ending

Edmonton Elks’ defensive back Scott Hutter will miss the rest of the 2024 season due to injury, according to his post on social media.

“Thank you to all of my family and friends who continue to support my career,” he wrote. “#20 will return.”

The native of London, Ont. was a sixth-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft out of Wilfrid Laurier University and has since played 55 regular season games with Edmonton, making 15 starts and recording 61 defensive tackles, 46 special teams tackles, and one forced fumble. He made four special teams tackles so far this season, tying Aubrey Miller Jr. for the team lead.

The six-foot, 195-pound defender appeared to suffer a non-contact injury during the team’s 20-14 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks this past week. The two teams played Friday’s game on only four days of rest, prompting McLeod Bethel-Thompson to speak out regarding the danger of playing on short weeks. This isn’t the first time the veteran quarterback has done so as he was fined for similar comments in June.

The Edmonton Elks (0-6) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-5) on Sunday, July 28 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
