The B.C. Lions will get their longest-serving player back in the lineup when they travel to Calgary on Sunday.
Veteran American defensive back T.J. Lee is set to make his season debut at boundary halfback after missing the first six games of the year with an Achilles injury suffered in last year’s West Final. The 33-year-old is coming off the second CFL all-star of his career in 2023, having racked up 82 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, a sack, and three interceptions in 18 games.
Since joining the Lions in 2014, the Eastern Washington product has suited up in 127 career CFL games and been named a West Division all-star five times. He has 523 defensive tackles to his credit, along with 34 special teams tackles, five sacks, 26 interceptions, and eight forced fumbles.
The move comes with perfect timing, as replacement boundary halfback Emmanuel Rugamba (knee) has been added to the six-game injured list. Through six games, the 26-year-old had collected 23 defensive tackles.
Starting defensive tackle Josh Banks will also return to the lineup after sitting out last week with a hamstring injury. Backup defensive back Jordan Perryman has been demoted to the practice roster as a result.
On the offensive side of the ball, Canadian receiver Jevon Cottoy (ribs) has been placed on the six-game injured list. The six-foot-five, 230-pounder has posted nine catches for 133 yards this year and will be replaced as a starter by fellow CJFL product Kieran Poissant, who has just one career reception for nine yards. 2024 second-round draft pick Ezechiel Tieide will also dress in a depth capacity.
The B.C. Lions (5-1) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (2-3) on Sunday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
