The Ottawa Redblacks will be without their most dynamic weapon for Friday’s rematch with the Edmonton Elks.
Returner DeVonte Dedmon (hip) has been placed on the one-game injured list after failing to finish last week’s contest. The 28-year-old has had a resurgent season in 2024, returning 23 punts for 274 yards while also fielding 13 kickoffs for 387 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive back Tobias Harris and receiver Kalil Pimpleton, who posted four catches for 153 yards and a major in his debut last week, are expected to split return duties.
The absence of Dedmon allows veteran receiver Bralon Addison to re-enter the lineup after sitting out Week 6 with an injury. He will serve as the team’s designated nationalized American, allowing him to replace rookie Canadian starter Nick Mardner for up to 25 plays in the game or sub in for any other American at will.
The Redblacks will have one other major change along the offensive line, as Canadian right tackle Zack Pelehos (shoulder) has also been ruled out this week. Veteran Jacob Ruby will step into the starting lineup, while former first-overall pick Dontae Bull dresses as insurance.
On a positive note, the team will get back Global linebacker Tyron Vrede after a short stint on the six-game injured list. The native of the Netherlands has 23 defensive tackles and 21 special teams tackles in 32 CFL games. He will bump Canadian defensive end Deshawn Stevens back to the practice roster.
The Ottawa Redblacks (3-2) will host the Edmonton Elks (0-5) on Friday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
