Toronto Argonauts sign veteran CFL DL Woody Baron

The Toronto Argonauts have signed veteran CFL defensive tackle Woody Baron.

The six-foot-one, 270-pound defender played 17 games for the B.C. Lions in 2023, recording 22 tackles, eight sacks, and one forced fumble.

The 30-year-old initially joined the Lions in 2022 but suffered a preseason ankle injury that limited him to just six games, recording seven defensive tackles and one sack. He was released by the Lions in February ahead of an off-season roster bonus.

Before arriving in Vancouver, the Chicago native spent his first three CFL seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. He recorded 71 defensive tackles, 11 sacks, and one forced fumble in 50 regular season games.

The Virginia Tech product recorded 98 combined tackles, nine sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles in four NCAA seasons with the Hokies. He attended training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017.

Through 73 career regular season games in the CFL, Baron has recorded 100 tackles, 20 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
