Saskatchewan Roughriders short underdogs for game against rival Blue Bombers

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have opened as short underdogs when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night.

This will mark the first of three meetings between the prairie rivals this season after Winnipeg won the season series last year by a margin of 2-1. The Blue Bombers won the first meeting at Mosaic Stadium 45-27 on the strength of a sensational punt return touchdown from Janarion Grant, while the Riders were victorious in the annual Labour Day Classic in overtime courtesy of a two-point convert from Shawn Bane Jr.

The rubber match came in the Banjo Bowl at Princess Auto Stadium as the home side decimated the Green and White by a score of 51-6. Zach Collaros threw five touchdown passes in only three quarters of work, three of which went to Dalton Schoen.

The Riders have a far better record than their rivals to the east, though the team is coming off its first loss of the season in Vancouver. Shea Patterson will likely make his third straight start with Trevor Harris out due to a knee injury, though Corey Mace is expected to offer an update on the club’s quarterback situation following practice on Tuesday afternoon.

Winnipeg has won back-to-back games, though the club still sits well below .500 after digging themselves into an 0-4 hole to start the year. The team’s offence is coming off its best performance of the year, though the defence struggled to stop Jake Maier and the Calgary Stampeders a week ago, allowing 37 points and 458 yards of net offence.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-1) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-4) on Friday, July 19 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT.

The rest of the betting lines for Week 7 in the CFL are as follows.
