Toronto Argonauts’ president Bill Manning, MLSE parts ways

Bill Manning, the president of the Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC, and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment have parted ways.

“On behalf of MLSE’s board of directors and the entire organization, we want to thank Bill for his many contributions in his nearly nine years with the company,” said MLSE president and CEO Keith Pelley in a statement.

“Bill will always be an important part of the championship history for both clubs, but as we evaluate the path ahead, and measure against our ambition to consistently deliver contending teams, it was determined that a new direction was required. Bill is a very accomplished team executive, and a good man, and we wish him and his family the very best in the future.”

Manning took on the role of Argonauts’ president in January 2018 when MLSE acquired the franchise. He was already the president of Toronto FC, a role he started in October 2015.

Argonauts’ general manager Mike ‘Pinball’ Clemons will now report directly to Pelley, who previously served as the president of the team from 2003 to 2007. He was hired in his current role earlier this year.

MLSE is the parent company of the Argonauts, as well as the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, NBA’s Toronto Raptors, and MLS’s Toronto FC. They also control minor league affiliates for all three of those organizations.

The Toronto Argonauts (2-2) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (5-0) at Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday, July 11 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
