The B.C. Lions may be all business ahead of their matchup with the undefeated Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, but fans will get to enjoy a party in the back pre-game.
The team’s second annual Watermelon Smash game will bring together both fanbases for a Backyard Bash in Terry Fox Plaza pre-game with live music and activities. New to the slate of entertainment this year is a free Mullet Barbershop, where fans can get their hair styled for free into one of four mullets inspired by players in the game.

Though archeological evidence suggests the mullet may date back to antiquity, the hairstyle peaked in popularity in the 1970s and 80s. Characterized by a short front and sides followed by longer hair in the back, the look has become iconic in both sports and pop culture.
Fans will be able to model their hairstyle after B.C.’s Global defensive tackle Tibo Debaillie or fullback David Mackie. For the Rider faithful, there are options based on the long-haired look of star running back A.J. Ouellette and Canadian defensive end Lake Korte-Moore.
For those not looking to mess with their mop, the pre-game festivities will include a series of competitions between Lions fans and the travelling Rider Nation, including a watermelon-eating contest. Team presidents Duane Vienneau of B.C. and Craig Reynolds of Saskatchewan are both expected to participate, though it is unclear if either executive has enough hair to attempt a mullet.
The Lions (4-1) and Riders (4-0) will kick off at 4:00 p.m. PDT at BC Place. The outdoor festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. local time and are free to attend.
