B.C. Lions open as heavy favourites over Riders in battle of top West Division teams

Published on

The B.C. Lions have opened as heavy favourites over the Saskatchewan Roughriders ahead of this week’s clash in Vancouver.

The Leos are riding a four-game winning streak after smashing the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Steeltown by a score of 44-28 on Sunday. Vernon Adams Jr. threw for four touchdowns and over 300 yards in the first half alone, while Justin McInnis added 10 catches, 144 yards, and two touchdowns to his red-hot start to the season.

Saskatchewan is the only remaining undefeated team in the West Division after upsetting the Toronto Argonauts at home this past week. Shea Patterson made his first career start in place of an injured Trevor Harris and threw for 192 yards and one touchdown in the win. He also rushed for 18 yards and one score. It seems unlikely that Harris will play this week, though head coach Corey Mace hasn’t provided an official timeline for his return.

B.C. won the season series 2-1 against Saskatchewan last season, including both meetings in Vancouver. Adams Jr. started all three meetings for the Lions, while Mason Fine started the first for Saskatchewan, followed by Jake Dolegala for the final two.

The Lions have started the season 4-1 for the third consecutive year. Saskatchewan is 4-0 for the first time since 2013, the last time the team won the Grey Cup.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) will visit the B.C. Lions (4-1) on Saturday, July 13 at B.C. Place Stadium with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

The lines for the rest of Week 6 are as follows.
