Toronto Argonauts sign former first-round pick DL Daniel Joseph

The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian defensive lineman Daniel Joseph, who was released by the B.C. Lions during training camp.

The six-foot-two, 261-pound edge rusher was the fourth overall pick in the 2021 CFL Draft out of North Carolina State. He chose not to enter the professional ranks that season, returning to the Wolfpack for his final season of NCAA eligibility in 2022.

Joseph signed with the Buffalo Bills after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but was waived at the end of training camp. He played for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL in 2023 and made eight total tackles and two sacks over seven games.

The Toronto native signed with the Lions in January 2024 but was released before the end of training camp. He dressed for the team’s first preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders but didn’t register any statistics.

Joseph ran a 5.08-second forty-yard dash, 7.45-second three-cone, and 4.45-second short shuttle at his pro day in March 2022 at N.C. State. He also leaped 29 inches in the vertical jump and nine feet in the broad jump. He did not participate in the bench press due to a pectoral injury.

The 27-year-old transferred to North Carolina State in 2020 following a three-year stint at Penn State. He had two highly productive seasons for the Wolfpack, recording 83 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 22 games.

Joseph is the cousin of longtime CFL defensive lineman Ese Mrabure and the brother of former first overall CFL draft pick Faith Ekakitie.

The Argonauts have also signed American offensive lineman George Moore.

The six-foot-six, 325-pound blocker most recently spent time with the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL but has previously been a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Arlington Renegades, Seattle Dragons, and DC Defenders.

Moore played collegiately at the University of Oregon and San Mateo Community College.

The Toronto Argonauts (2-2) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (5-0) at Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday, July 11 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
