All regular season, playoff B.C. Lions games to be broadcast in Punjabi

The B.C. Lions have all their games broadcasted in Punjabi this season as Harpreet Pandher and Taqdeer Thindal will be on the call on Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600.

The duo spearheaded the CFL’s first-ever Punjabi radio broadcast last season when the Lions defeated the Edmonton Elks by a score of 27-0 on July 29.

“Punjabi fans are passionate about sports and connecting to their community,” said Pandher and Thindal in a joint statement. “This Lions Punjabi broadcast will be a stepping stone for bridging Punjabis to the game of football and representing their home team. We expect a vast range of Punjabis to tune into the broadcasts and are also humbled to be a part of this historic moment and excited to promote this great game.”

According to the most recent data from Statistics Canada, over 300,000 people in British Columbia speak Punjabi, making it the third-most popular language in the province. Outside of English, it is the most common first language in B.C.

Pandher and Thindal were both born and raised in the lower mainland with Thindal attending his first Lions game in 1999. The duo joined Hockey Night In Canada Punjabi in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Bob ‘The Moj’ Marjanovich and Giulio Caravatta have returned for an eighth season on B.C.’s English language radio call, which can be heard on 980 CKNW and longtime affiliate stations CFAX 1070 in Victoria, AM 1150 in Kelowna, and Radio NL in Kamloops, Ashcroft, Shuswap/Sorrento, Clearwater, Logan Lake, Blue River, and Avola.
