Rookie quarterback Terry Wilson will be at the reins when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers wrap up their preseason on Friday against the Calgary Stampeders.

Neither starter Zach Collaros nor veteran backup Chris Streveler will dress this week, leaving the start to Wilson. The 26-year-old was the most effective passer in Winnipeg’s preseason-opening loss to Saskatchewan, completing 10-of-15 pass attempts for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Darren Grainger, who signed with the team on May 25, will be the only other quarterback on the roster. He spent the past three seasons at Georgia State University, where he completed 62.7 percent of his pass attempts for 6,779 yards, 57 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. He also ran for 2,130 yards and 19 scores.

The Bombers have not seen game action since May 20 and will field an inexperienced lineup at Princess Auto Stadium, with no veteran starters expected to dress. Tyrique McGhee and Tyrell Ford will once again make their case to fill the vacant corner spots, while Dylan Moses and Johnny Petrishen will vie to fill in for the injured Adam Bighill at middle linebacker. Canadian Tanner Schmekel and American Mile Fox will both start at defensive tackle as they battle to fill the spot opposite Jake Thomas.

Offensively, Eric Lofton will get the first crack at the vacant right tackle job. A number of players remain in the mix for the team’s empty American receiver slot, with Josh Johnson, Keric Wheatfall, Ontaria Wilson, and Myron Mitchell earning first-unit reps this week. Chris Smith will start at running back but should be the frontrunner for the returner job as well.

The Bombers will host the Stampeders at 8:30 p.m. ET on May 31. Final cuts have to be made by 10:00 p.m. ET the following day.
