Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign former 1,000-yard receiver Steven Dunbar Jr.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have brought back American receiver Steven Dunbar Jr.

The six-foot-three, 202-pound target played 13 games with the Edmonton Elks in 2023 and caught 39 passes for 536 yards and five touchdowns. He was the third-highest-paid receiver in the league but was released so the team could avoid paying him an off-season roster bonus worth $65,000.

The native of New Orleans, La. started his CFL career as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2021. He made 116 catches for 1,630 yards and 10 touchdowns over two seasons with the club and was named an East Division all-star in 2022.

The 28-year-old signed in the UFL following his release from the Elks and played one game for the Houston Roughnecks after starting the season on the inactive list. He was targeted three times and made one reception for 19 yards in a 34-20 loss to the Michigan Panthers before being released.

Dunbar went unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Houston. He was a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Dallas Renegades of the XFL prior to coming to the CFL.

The Ticats will play their second and final preseason game on Friday, May 31 against the Toronto Argonauts.
