The CFL couldn’t even wait for the regular season to have their first weather delay of 2024.

Due to thunder and lightning in the immediate vicinity of McMahon Stadium, Saturday’s preseason contest between the B.C. Lions and Calgary Stampeders was delayed by 25 minutes.

As a result of the delay, Postmedia’s Danny Austin has reported that Calgary receivers Jalen Philpot and Malik Henry will be pulled from the game for precautionary reasons. Both players were set to make their returns after missing last season with serious injuries. They are expected to be available next week.

Kickoff for the game was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET before the inclement weather during warmups caused players to retreat to the locker room. The game will now begin at 4:25 p.m.

Both the Lions and Stampeders are engaging in their first preseason game.
