Montreal Alouettes to wear ‘one-of-a-kind’ uniform to commemorate 1974 Grey Cup anniversary

The Montreal Alouettes will wear what they’ve called a “one-of-a-kind uniform” for a special regular season game in 2024.

The team will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1974 Grey Cup victory when they host the Edmonton Elks at Percival Molson Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 25. Some alumni will be in attendance for the game, though it remains unclear which former players will be on-hand to witness the celebration.

The press release included an image of the logo the Alouettes wore from 1975 to 1981, which could be a hint regarding how the uniforms will look in August.

Below is an image of the uniforms the Alouettes wore during the Grey Cup in 1974, featuring blue jerseys with red sleeves. The helmets are blue with the logo located on the front and numbers placed on the side. Montreal most recently wore a version of these uniforms in 2010 when they hosted the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 62nd Grey Cup was Montreal’s third championship in team history as they defeated Edmonton by a score of 20-7 in front of 34,450 fans at a rain-soaked Empire Stadium in Vancouver. Sonny Wade came off the bench to be named the game’s Most Valuable Player on offence, while Canadian Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Junior Ah You was named the game’s Most Valuable Player on defence.

The Alouettes did a full redesign of their uniforms in 2019 and introduced a new red alternate this past season, which was worn during their victory over the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final.

Other game themes for the Alouettes this season include Superhero Night, Beach Party, Country Game, Thanksgiving Duel, and Pink Game.
