B.C. Lions sign Winnipeg training camp cut, American LB Joe Beckett

The B.C. Lions have signed American linebacker Joe Beckett to their training camp roster.

The six-foot-four, 240-pound defender previously attended training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He registered four defensive tackles in a pair of preseason performances and was released on June 3.

The native of Lexington, S.C. went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but took part in rookie minicamp with the New York Giants.

Beckett was a standout during his career at Wofford College, a private liberal arts school located in Spartanburg, S.C. He made 183 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one knockdown, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble over 53 career games, which included 28 starts.

The Lions will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they visit the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field.
