Winnipeg Blue Bombers launch new high school girls flag football league

High school girls in Winnipeg will have a new opportunity to play flag football thanks to their local CFL team.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have launched a new High School Girls Flag Football League, which will see 19 teams comprised of over 200 athletes compete in 87 games this spring.

“This new league will allow high school girls to showcase their athletic talents, learn new skills, and experience the thrill of flag football in an inclusive environment,” said club president and CEO Wade Miller in a statement.

The league’s season will run twice per week from April 2 to May 8 at the Winnipeg Soccer Federation South and the St. Vital Mustangs Field, providing indoor and outdoor venues.

“We are proud of our ongoing partnership with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to help more young people in Manitoba experience the benefits of participating in community sports,” said Bell executive David Kennedy. “This program will foster teamwork, leadership, and resilience skills in young women from schools across Winnipeg as we work with the Blue Bombers to give back to our communities.”
