Top-ranked CFL prospect Gabe Wallace shines in vertical jump, bench press at Buffalo pro day

Top-ranked CFL draft prospect Gabe Wallace lived up to his reputation as a mauler along the offensive line at the University at Buffalo pro day on Thursday, measuring in at six-foot-six and 344 pounds.

Wallace leaped 29.5 inches in the vertical jump, per sources, which is higher than 23 offensive linemen who attended the recent NFL Combine. This is especially impressive considering that he would have been the second-heaviest offensive lineman at the event behind only Howard left tackle Anim Dankwah, who also happens to be Canadian.

The Buffalo product also completed 29 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, which would have placed him seventh among offensive linemen at this year’s NFL Combine and first at last year’s CFL Combine. His arms measured just under 34 inches in length, which is considered above average for prospects along the interior of the offensive line.

The native of Salmon Arm, B.C. also recorded a 5.78-second forty-yard dash, 93-inch broad jump, 5.31-second shuttle, and 8.52-second three-cone drill. Though his forty-yard dash was relatively slow, his 10-yard split — often considered the more important metric for offensive linemen — was a respectable 1.88 seconds.

Wallace dressed for 49 career games with the Bulls after redshirting with the team in 2018. He was a three-year starter, starting 28 games at guard, seven games at left tackle, and two games at right tackle. He was named third-team All-MAC as a senior in 2022 when he played exclusively at left guard, helping the Bulls rank top five in total offence.

He is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft and considers himself to be a throwback offensive lineman. Wallace also has an affinity for classical music.
