Edmonton Elks add defensive back Brian Hughes Jr.

The Edmonton Elks have signed American defensive back Brian Hughes Jr.

The six-foot-three, 195-pound defender finished his collegiate career at Bethel University this past season, a private school in western Tennessee that competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

The native of Richmond Hill, Ga. made 84 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and two pass deflections over 13 games with the Wildcats to be named second-team All Mid-South Conference.

The 24-year-old started his collegiate career at Kentucky Christian University where he made 57 total tackles, two interceptions, and one sack over 11 games in 2022.

The Elks will open their 2024 regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, June 8.
