Saskatchewan Roughriders extend six-time all-star DL Micah Johnson

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive lineman Micah Johnson to a one-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024. He was set to become a free agent on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The six-foot-two, 278-pound defender made 18 starts for Saskatchewan in 2023, recording 27 defensive tackles, one tackle for loss, five sacks, and one fumble recovery.

The 35-year-old native of Columbus, Ga. signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 2013 following a three-year run in the NFL and played six seasons with the club before stints with the Riders, B.C. Lions, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The three-time CFL all-star and six-time divisional all-star has recorded 263 tackles, 59 sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions over 142 career games.

CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST. The Riders will open their 2024 regular season on Saturday, June 8 when they visit the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.
