Hitching their wagon: Bombers sign Iowa DL John Waggoner

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American defensive lineman John Waggoner to their training camp roster.

The six-foot-five, 267-pound pass rusher spent four seasons at the University of Iowa, suiting up in 41 games for the Hawkeyes between 2019 and 2022. He recorded 65 total tackles over that span, adding 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three batted passes.

The Des Moines, Ia. native was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honouree and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2022. He also served on the Hawkeyes’ player leadership council.

The Blue Bombers will open the 2024 regular season by hosting the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, June 6.
