The Montreal Alouettes have signed American defensive back Linden Stephens to their training camp roster.
The six-foot, 193-pound corner most recently played with the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons, collecting 22 total tackles in eight games. After going unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft, Stephens enjoyed stints with the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in three games for the Dolphins in 2019 and 13 for the Seahawks in 2020, recording six career tackles.
The 28-year-old played collegiately at the University of Cincinnati from 2014 to 2017. In 44 games for the Bearcats, he registered 140 total tackles, 26 pass breakups, six interceptions and a forced fumble.
Stephens is the grandson of five-time NBA All-Star Gus ‘Honeycomb’ Johnson, a forward with the Baltimore Bullets, Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. His father, Mac Stephens, also briefly played linebacker in the NFL.
Montreal will open the 2024 season on June 6 when they visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for a Grey Cup rematch at Princess Auto Stadium.
