Sources: Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-sign Canadian DL Mason Bennett

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Canadian defensive lineman Mason Bennett to a one-year contract extension, per sources. He was scheduled to become a free agent next week.

The Winnipeg native started eleven games for the Tiger-Cats in 2022, recording 28 defensive tackles and five sacks. His production plummeted this past season, however, as he managed only five tackles and one sack over 14 contests.

Per source, Bennett has been assured that he will have a chance to earn a starting role with the club in 2024. He garnered offers from two other CFL teams and signed back with Hamilton for less than the top offer he received.

The six-foot-four, 262-pound defender was a first-round pick in the 2020 CFL Draft out of the University of North Dakota. He has made 44 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, and eight sacks over 43 career CFL games.

Bennett was 3DownNation’s eighth-ranked pending free agent defensive end.

The Ticats will open their 2024 regular season by visiting the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 7.
