The Calgary Stampeders have agreed to terms with American defensive lineman Ricky Walker and, barring anything unforeseen, he’s expected to sign with the team, per sources.

The six-foot-two, 287-pound defender made 17 starts at defensive tackle with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this past season, recording 37 defensive tackles and five sacks. The native of Newport News, Va. has been with the team since 2021 and made 59 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and seven sacks.

The 27-year-old went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech before signing with the Dallas Cowboys. He was waived by the team at the conclusion of training camp before stints with the Tamps Bay Vipers and Cleveland Browns.

Pending free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the current window, which closes on Feb. 11. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular team for 2024, however, these deals aren’t legally binding and can’t be finalized or made official until after free agency opens on Feb. 13.

The Stampeders will open the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium.
