The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian receiver Dejon Brissett to a two-year contract extension, per sources. He was scheduled to become a free agent on February 13.
Brissett was selected with the second overall pick in the 2020 CFL Draft out of the University of Virginia. He had a mini-breakout season in 2023, though it still feels like the best is yet to come for the 27-year-old.
The six-foot-one, 195-pound target averaged 11.6 yards per reception this past season, which ranked fourth-best league-wide among receivers with more than 20 catches, as he hauled in 38 passes for 594 yards and five touchdowns.
In 47 career games across three seasons, Brissett has recorded 57 receptions for 827 yards and six touchdowns.
The native of Mississauga spent four seasons at the University of Richmond before transferring to Virginia for his final season, where he caught two passes for 18 yards in 12 games. With the Spiders, Brissett notched 86 receptions for 1,282 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 941 kick return yards and one score in 33 career games.
The Argos are slated to begin their 2024 season on Sunday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET when they host the B.C. Lions.
