The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are keeping their longest-serving player at home, bringing back veteran Canadian defensive tackle Jake Thomas for a 12th season with the team.
The 34-year-old was scheduled to become a free agent on February 13 but has now signed a one-year extension with the only CFL team he has ever known. The six-foot-two, 274-pound stalwart played all 18 games for the team in 2023, recording 17 defensive tackles and a career-high five sacks.
Originally selected by Winnipeg in the fourth round of the 2012 CFL Draft out of Acadia, Thomas has since suited up in 186 regular season games for the club and appeared in the last four Grey Cups. Over that span, he has amassed 165 defensive tackles, 31 sacks and an interception.
