Redblacks release Canadian OL Jacob Ruby prior to offseason roster bonus

The Ottawa Redblacks have released Canadian offensive lineman Jacob Ruby prior to his offseason roster bonus.

He was scheduled to receive $20,000 on February 1 as part of his $197,500 in hard money for the upcoming season, but instead becomes a free agent.

Ruby was the team’s Most Oustanding Lineman while starting at right guard the past two seasons.

The London, ON native appeared in all 18 games during the 2022 campaign and was named a CFL all-star for the first time in his career. He played all 18 regular-season games again for Ottawa in 2023.

The 31-year-old Ruby has spent eight seasons in the three-down league. The six-foot-seven, 325-pounder has played in 99 games for three different teams since he was drafted eighth overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2015 CFL Draft.

Expect multiple teams to be interested in Ruby who is a proven national starter.
