The Montreal Alouettes announced have signed Canadian offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon to a one-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024. He was a pending free agent.
“Philippe gives us depth at a crucial position in football,” said general manager Danny Maciocia in a statement. “Whatever the mission is, we’re comfortable with him. He will be playing a sixth season with us and he knows our playbook well. We are happy to count on his services in 2024.”
The six-foot-four, 311-pound blocker played 11 games with the Alouettes this past season, making one regular season start at guard. He stepped into a starting role again during the postseason, starting the East Semi-Final, East Final, and Grey Cup to help Montreal end their championship drought.
The 31-year-old was originally selected with the second overall pick in the 2016 CFL Draft out of Université Laval. He has since played 81 career with 58 starts as a member of the Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks.
The native of Ancienne-Lorette, Que. won two Vanier Cups while playing collegiately for the Rouge et Or.
CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
