Calgary Stampeders re-sign DB Brad Muhammad, add two receivers

The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American defensive back Brad Muhammad. He was set to become a free agent next month.

The five-foot-ten, 189-pound cover man played eight games as a member of the Stampeders in 2023, making six starts at field-side halfback. He recorded 20 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception.

The 28-year-old native of St. Petersburg, Fla. started his CFL career with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021 prior to signing with Calgary the following year. He has made 84 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, four tackles for loss, 11 pass knockdowns, three interceptions, and one forced fumble over 29 career CFL games.

The Stampeders have signed American receivers Ishmael Hyman and Malachi Wideman.

Hyman went unselected in the 2018 NFL Draft out of James Madison University and has since been a member of the Orlando Apollos, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers. He played two games with the Bucs in 2019 and recorded two catches for 34 yards.

The six-foot, 196-pound target from Manalapan, N.J. played for the Michigan Panthers and Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League in 2023 and caught 15 passes for 152 yards.

Wideman was recently a member of the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL prior to the league’s merger with the USFL.

The six-foot-five, 190-pound target from Sarasota, Fla. started his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee before transferring to Jackson State. He made 37 catches for 589 yards and 13 touchdowns over 17 games with the Tigers.
