Edmonton Elks sign former first-round NFL draft pick Robert Nkemdiche

The Edmonton Elks have signed former first-round NFL draft pick Robert Nkemdiche.

The six-foot-three, 296-pound defensive lineman was a first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with the team prior to being waived ahead of training camp in 2019 after failing his physical.

The native of Atlanta, Ga. signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent before stints with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Michigan Panthers of the USFL, Jacksonville Sharks of the National Arena League, and DC Defenders of the XFL.

The 29-year-old played 38 career NFL games, recording 59 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three pass knockdowns, and two forced fumbles.

Nkemdiche was named first-team All-SEC during his final collegiate season at Ole Miss in 2015. He ran a 4.87-second forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine along with a 35-inch vertical jump, 116-inch broad jump, and 28 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
