How-dy: Calgary Stampeders extend DE Julian Howsare

The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed defensive end Julian Howsare.

The 31-year-old pass rusher joined the Stampeders in free agency last offseason and saw action in all 18 games during his first season in Cowtown, posting 48 defensive tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles. He spent the previous four seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, earning an East Division all-star selection in 2022 after recording a career-high seven sacks.

In 83 career regular-season games over five CFL seasons, the six-foot-three, 256-pound end has accumulated 160 defensive tackles, six special-teams tackles, 27 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.

The Altoona, Pen. native has amassed 26 tackles in nine playoff appearances, adding a tackle for loss, two sacks, one special-teams tackle, one fumble recovery and one knockdown.

Prior to joining the Ticats, Howsare spent time with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. He dressed for two games with the Jets in 2016.

Howsare accumulated 256 tackles including 47.5 tackles for loss, 33 sacks, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions in 43 collegiate games for Clarion University. He was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West Defensive Player of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. He was a third-team all-American in 2012 and 2013 and a second-team all-American in 2012.

The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
